Pravoka Pirates -- Second Boss

Location: Pravoka Difficulty: Easy Recommended Level: 5

Nine pirates blocking the Pravoka docks. Each has 24 HP and zero Defense, making them the weakest boss encounter in the game. Beat them and the Ship is yours-opening sea travel and the rest of the world map.

Strategy

Zero Defense means every physical hit deals full damage. Focus one pirate at a time-do not split attacks across multiple targets. With four party members each landing one hit, the first pirate dies before it can even attack. All fighters: Focus the same target each round. One pirate down per round minimum at level 5. Black Mage: Physical attacks only. Spells are overkill on 24 HP enemies and the charges are worth more in the Elfheim dungeons ahead. White Mage: Physical attacks every turn. No healing needed unless someone takes an unlucky string of hits. The fight ends in 2 to 3 rounds.

Quick Tips

  • Do not use Sleep or any status spells here. The pirates die faster than you can put them to sleep, and you are burning a spell slot for no reason.
  • If you want to be safe, have your White Mage ready to heal if three or more pirates attack the same character in round one.
  • The pirates' Accuracy is extremely low (2)-many of their attacks will miss entirely.

Turn-by-Turn Guide

  1. 1. All fighters focus the same pirate target
  2. 2. Black Mage uses physical attacks only
  3. 3. White Mage uses physical attacks only
  4. 4. One pirate eliminated per round minimum
  5. 5. By round two, more than half the group wiped
  6. 6. Remaining pirates barely threaten your party
  7. 7. Continue until all nine pirates defeated

The Ship docks in Pravoka harbor and is now yours to sail. Before leaving, stock up at the Pravoka shops-especially the Black Magic shop, which sells Temper. Temper boosts Attack significantly and stays useful through the mid-game. Buy it for your Red Mage or Black Mage if you have not already. Sail south then west to reach Elfheim, the next major town. The Marsh Cave and Elfheim dungeon chain begins here.
