Strategy
Garland only attacks physically. He poses no real threat at level 3 as long as you heal when HP drops low. Every class: Attack every turn. Your party's combined physical damage at level 3 outpaces his healing needs easily. Black Mage: Open with Fire or Thunder for 25 to 35 damage, then attack physically the rest of the fight. Spells are valuable-do not burn multiple charges here. White Mage: Heal any character who drops below 30 HP. Use physical attacks every turn you do not need to heal. The fight ends in 3 to 4 rounds. No buffs, no setup required.
Quick Tips
- • Do not use your Black Mage's full spell stock here. Save Fire and Thunder charges for the Cavern of Earth.
- • If your White Mage is at full spell charges, use them freely-you can rest at the Cornelia Inn for free directly after this fight.
- • Target HP above 25 on everyone entering the fight. Garland can land two or three hits before you get your first heal in.
Turn-by-Turn Guide
- 1. All party members attack every turn

- 7. Do not waste spell charges-save for Cavern of Earth
Rewards
Princess Sarah teleports the party back to Cornelia Castle. The King rebuilds the bridge south of Cornelia, opening the road to Pravoka and the rest of the world. Sarah gives you the Lute before you leave-keep it in your inventory through the entire game. You need it to unlock the final dungeon. Rest at the Cornelia Inn. Buy any spells or gear you are missing from the shops. The next stop is Pravoka to the east.
